To mark the World Backup Day, celebrated each year on 31 March, LRob, your web host specialising in WordPress, The best practices, practical solutions and pitfalls to avoid for never lose valuable data again.

What is World Safeguarding Day?

A useful reminder... before it's too late

As the Wikipedia :

The idea was born on Reddit, when a user recounted losing his hard drive... and regretted not having been better informed about back-ups. Since 2011, this day has been encouraging Internet users to make a simple commitment: back up their data regularly.

Every 31 March, companies and the tech media get together to raise awareness of the importance of back-ups. Podcasts, articles, posts on social networks. The aim is clear: avoid disaster before 1 April, and that's no joke.

🏢 For businesses: the winning combo: NAS + Cloud

If you're a company with critical data (customers, projects, HR documents, accounts, etc.), it's a good idea to keep an eye on it. essential to organise your data and back-ups.

💾 Method 1: use a NAS

A NAS (Network Attached Storage) allows you to store your sensitive files locally, with secure access for your teams. Even better: you can use it to back up your LRob web hosting., provided you have a Fixed IP provided by your ISP. We'll talk more about this in the next chapter.

🛑 But be careful: a NAS is not a backup.
And no, not even with RAID, which provides redundancy in the event of disk failure. Why not? Because RAID protects against hardware failure only up to a certain level, and not against accidental deletion, ransomware or fire.

You therefore need to replicate the NAS on a secure online service (Cloud). For example :

  • Cloud S3 compatible
➜ Prices vary greatly depending on the offer
  • Pulseheberg Storage Cloud
    ➜ From 6/month for 250 GB
➜ Compatible with all professional NAS on the market... And Plesk hosting!
➜ LRob can assist you with the set-up.

☁️ Method 2: Collaborative working via Nextcloud managed by LRob

Do you work in a team, manage shared projects or want to centralise your documents? You don't want to be caught unprepared when you're on the move, and you don't want to need a VPN or any other time-consuming configuration.

Then Nextcloud is just the thing for you!

Much more economical than Microsoft and Google solutions for large teams, the free and open-source solution could be just the thing for you as well as giving you back sovereignty over your data. LRob adopted it in 2017 and we wouldn't change a thing for the world!

The optics are interesting: Files are stored on each computer connected to Nextcloud and on the server. Smartphones (Android and iOS) can selectively sync any file. This makes it easy to share and synchronise files within the team, and doesn't stop you working if you lose your internet connection. It can also create new workflows such as the sharing password databases with KeePass.

LRob offers managed Nextcloud hosting, including :

  • Regular updates
  • Technical support
  • Secure environment
  • Automatic outsourced back-ups

This makes Nextcloud your the nerve centre of collaboration, while remaining compatible with the same backup solutions as our WordPress hosting packages.

And thanks to LRob, you can also back up all your Nextcloud data on your NAS or external hosting simply by FTP.

Secure FTP. Everything can be easily restored from your LRob control panel or to another Plesk hosting.
